Report, Android’s banned app Clean Master is still stealing people’s data, reports claim

Earlier reports had also accused some of Cheetah Mobile’s apps of being involved in fraud schemes, which included the Clean Master app. Google never officially shared the reason for removing Clean Master from the Play Store. According to reports from researchers at the cybersecurity company, Cheetah’s other products, such as CM Browser, CM Launcher and Security Master apps, are also spying on users’ data.
According to the report, data like browsing history, search engine queries, Wi-Fi access points names and scrolling patterns were collected through this app. VPN Pro also had an article claiming that the Clean Master app was stealing ‘deadly information’ from users, which needed to be uninstalled. The company has said in a statement regarding this that they are collecting users’ data not with bad intentions but for security reasons.
The company also says that it is monitoring internet browsing to ensure that the websites the users are visiting do not pose any threat to them. This is also done so that recent trending searches of the users can be suggested. Regarding accessing Wi-Fi networks, the company replied that this is done to keep users away from fake Wi-Fi networks.
