Sony Sells 24 Lakh PS5 Units in First Quarter, Music Division Gives Strong Profit

Japanese consumer electronics company Sony has increased its revenue and profit forecasts for the current financial year. The company’s music and software divisions have performed well in the first quarter. Sony’s operating profit for the quarter ended June increased to JPY 279.1 billion (about $1.9 billion). It was about JPY 253 billion in the same quarter last year.

The company has said that in this financial year its sales can be JPY 12.6 lakh crore and operating profit can be JPY 1.3 lakh crore. sony Microsoft’s PlayStation division has found it easier to boost sales through first-party and online multiplayer games like Helldivers 2. However, the company has benefited most from better exchange rates. It has sold 24 lakh units of PlayStation 5 console in the first quarter. However, this is much lower than analysts’ forecast of sales of 3 million units. The company’s music business had the highest share in profit in the first quarter.

Kazunori Ito, director of Morningstar Investment, said, “PlayStation’s business is not as good as the data shows. Revenue and profit of this business have increased due to the weak yen. Sony had said that its hardware sales “It will slow down from the financial year, but the pace of the slowdown is much greater than our forecast.”
