Supermoon Will Appear with Blue Moon in August, Where to Watch This Rare Event

Next month, the people of America will be able to see two fascinating astronomical events. This is called a supermoon and will be one of the rarest ‘blue moons’. The Moon will be in a semi-moon shape till August 16 and on August 30, it will be visible as a Blue Moon. It will be seen as a full moon for the second time in a month.

On August 1, in New York, USA, sunset will occur at 8:13 pm (BST) and moonrise will occur at 9:23 pm (BST). The full moon will be at its peak at 6:33 pm (BST). The lunar cycle takes approximately 29.5 days to complete. It changes from Full Moon to New Moon and back to Full Moon. Typically, most months have only one full moon. It is rare that a second full moon occurs in the same month. A Blue Moon is likely to appear once every three years. After the appearance of the Blue Moon next month, this sight will be seen again only in May 2026.

A supermoon appears when the Moon’s orbit brings it closest to Earth during the full moon phase. It looks like something big and bright in the night sky. This month, India launched its moon mission Chandrayaan-3 from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. With this, India will become the fourth country to land its spacecraft on the surface of the Moon. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has started preparations for the launch of Gaganyaan, the country’s first human space flight, after the successful launch of Chandrayaan-3. Chandrayaan-3 aims to demonstrate the country’s capability of landing and roving on the lunar surface.
