TCS Accused by American Workers of Employment Discrimination
According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, more than 20 workers have filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). This American law enforcement agency declares discrimination in the workplace illegal. This report states that American workers claim that TCS has violated laws by targeting them on the basis of characteristics like age and caste. They say that due to the action taken by the company, Indian workers who came to America on H-1B visa were given priority.
In this regard, a company spokesperson said, “TCS’s allegations of illegal discrimination are false and misleading. The company has a strong track record as an equal opportunity employer in the United States.” Last year also, the scam of taking bribe in exchange for job in TCS was exposed. Two whistleblower complaints were received in this matter. The company had dismissed six workers and blacklisted six staffing firms regarding this. A whistleblower had written to the company’s Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer alleging that TCS’ Resource Management Group (RMG) head, ES Chakravarthy, had been taking commission from staffing firms for some years. Following this complaint, the company had formed a team of three senior executives, including TCS Chief Information Security Officer, Ajit Menon, to investigate the allegations.
Last month, TCS had said that it does not plan to reduce hiring. However, the company had said that it will do the hiring as per the demand. K Krithivasan, chief executive of TCS, said, “The economy is improving and we will need more people to do more work. We do not plan to reduce our hiring plan. We may have to change the pace of hiring. Is.” The company is facing difficulties in its biggest market.
