These new features are associated with OxygenOS 11

1. Gaming tools
OnePlus’ Game Space app has received a new icon with OxygenOS 11. Most of its functions remain the same as before, but a new option has been added to its settings called ‘Gaming Tools’. After enabling this option, you can overlay the menu by swiping down from the left and right corners of the screen in any game. From this menu, you can see the system temperature and battery level and it also has shortcuts to WhatsApp, Instagram, etc.
2. Always-on ambient displays
OnePlus smartphones have had the Ambient Display feature for a long time. But after the OxygenOS 11 update, it has now included Always-On Ambient Display settings. You can enable Always-On Ambient Display on your OnePlus 8T Go to the smartphone’s settings, click on Display and then enable Ambient Display. Here you can set how long you want the always-on display or you can also keep it on forever.
3. Dark mode
The OnePlus 8T gets a dark mode option in the settings with OxygenOS 11. You can enable this feature by going to the quick settings panel and using the toggle button. A new shortcut switch has been added for dark mode. Which can be set to turn on automatically at a certain time or according to sunset and sunrise.
4. New Zen mode
Zen Mode is a digital detox process that lets you block all calls and notifications for a certain period of time. OnePlus has added 5 soothing themes to Zen Mode with the OxygenOS 11 update, longer time options starting from 1 minute, and a new group feature that allows you to use Zen Mode together with other OnePlus users. This new feature is already present in the OnePlus 8 without the OxygenOS 11 update.
5. Focus tracking in Camera app
The OnePlus 8T features an improved camera set, and while it’s no different from the OnePlus 8, there’s one particularly useful new feature you can take advantage of. There’s a new ‘Focus Tracking’ toggle added to the camera app settings, which as the name suggests allows the camera to lock focus on a moving subject. It’s a useful feature that we’ve seen in smartphones from Samsung and Google before, and we’re glad OnePlus has included it as well.
6. Accessing notifications with a swipe
If you’re an existing OnePlus user, you’ve probably accessed the notification shades by swiping down anywhere on the home screen. The OnePlus 8T also offers a similar gesture with Shelf, which is OnePlus’ card-style column where you can access widgets, step counter, and recently used apps. If you don’t need to use it, you can easily change this gesture.
Long press on a blank area of the homescreen and select Home settings. Here you will find the option ‘Swipe down to access’ on the second number and then change it from the shelf to Notifications & quick settings. Save this selection and use it.
7. Quick access to Google Home devices
OxygenOS 11 has redesigned the power menu. Instead of having small pop-up buttons for power, reset, and screenshot, you get a full-screen menu with oversized buttons. If you have Google Home installed for any smart devices in your home, you can add shortcuts for those devices to this power menu. This is going to be quite useful, as you don’t have to specifically open the Google Home app just to dim or turn off the lights in your home, for example.
