The government has provided the option to help you keep your driving license safe in your phone or keep a soft copy of it through DigiLocker or mParivahan app. This comes in especially handy when you forget to carry your driving license with you. Also, storing your driving license on your smartphone helps protect its hard copy from getting lost or stolen.

In 2018 the government issued an advisory for states to accept driving licenses and vehicle registrations stored in DigiLocker and mParivahan apps. Its objective was to eliminate the need to carry hard copies of documents while driving. Here’s how you can keep your driving license on your smartphone or download its soft copy.

When you are going to do this, it is important to mention that you should already have an account on DigiLocker. You can sign up for DigiLocker by creating an account using your phone number and Aadhaar card.

1. DigiLocker site Go to and sign in with your username and six-digit PIN. You will then receive a one-time password (OTP) on your registered phone.

3. Now, look for the words “driving license” in the search bar.
