TikTok number one in app downloads, Netflix, Google Maps, Spotify top in their category

TikTok app has become the most downloaded app in 2021. According to a report, TikTok had 65.6 crore downloads this year. After that, Instagram, Facebook (now Meta), WhatsApp and Telegram were downloaded most frequently. In terms of category distribution, Netflix leads among entertainment apps. Shopee is on top among shopping apps. This time Amazon did not even find a place in the top 3. Google Maps stood first in the travel app category, while Spotify got the first rank in music and audio apps. The number of downloads of these apps is given by combining the downloads of both Apple App Store and Google Play store.

Apptopia’s latest Report A list of the most downloaded apps globally is given. The report has been distributed category wise. TikTok was the most downloaded among social media apps. After this, there were 54.5 crore downloads of Instagram, 41.6 crore downloads of Facebook, 39.5 crore downloads of WhatsApp and 32.9 crore downloads of Telegram. Snapchat was downloaded 327 million times while Zoom and Spotify were downloaded 30 and 203 million times respectively.

Subway Surfer game was downloaded the most with 191 million downloads, followed by Rolox with 182 million downloads. Bridge Race had 16.9 crore downloads, Zerina Free Fire had 14.4 crore downloads and Among Us had 15.2 crore downloads. PUBG Mobile and Battlegrounds Mobile India did not find a place in the top 10. There were 173 million downloads of Netflix, 166 million downloads of YouTube, 131 million downloads of Google Play Games, 126 million downloads of Disney Plus and 120 million downloads of Amazon Prime Video.

Talking about shopping apps, Singapore based Shopee was downloaded the most at 203 million times. After that Shein remained at second place with 19 crore downloads. India’s reseller and marketplace platform Meesho was ranked third with 153 million downloads. Amazon became the most downloaded shopping app in 2020 but this time it has got fourth place with 148 million downloads. Flipkart was downloaded 93 million times and stood at fifth position.

The social media app list remained the same as the general list. However, Snapchat replaced Telegram at number five with 327 million downloads. In the food and drinks category, McDonald’s topped the list with 116 million downloads. Google Maps got 10.6 crore downloads, Uber got 9.4 crore downloads and Booking.com got 6.3 crore downloads.

The cryptocurrency segment remained quite popular in 2021. Among the apps downloaded in this segment, Binance app was downloaded 64 million times, Crypto.com 41 million times and Coinbase 40 million times. Similarly, PayPal got 10.6 crore downloads, Google Pay got 8.2 crore downloads and Phone Pay got 7.9 crore downloads. On top among music apps, Spotify was downloaded 203 million times, Reso 84 million and YouTube Music 79 million times.

Among dating apps, Tinder was downloaded 67 million times, Badoo 35 million and Bumble 22 million. During the Corona period, a large number of people worked from home and due to this the downloads of business apps also increased. Zoom was downloaded 300 million times, Google Meet 192 million, WhatsApp Business 143 million and Microsoft Teams 141 million.
