TKM plans to set up its third plant in the country in Karnataka. For this, the company signed an MoU with the Karnataka government on Tuesday. With this, Toyota’s production capacity can increase by one lakh units. An investment of about Rs 3,300 crore will be made in this plant to be built in Bidadi, Karnataka. This plant will provide employment to about 2,000 people. The company plans to increase its production in the country. It has two plants in the country with a capacity of about 3.42 lakh units per year. Chief Operating Officer of Toyota’s Asia Region, Masahiko Maeda had said that the country’s market is very important for the company. The new plant will also help the company increase its sales in the country.
Toyota has a major share in the international market of hybrid cars. It debuted in this segment in the country with the Prius. Japan’s Toyota claims that hybrid cars have less carbon emissions than petrol engine cars. Late last year, the company had requested the Trade Promotion and Industry Ministry to make the cess on hybrid cars balanced by the Heavy Industries Ministry. However, Tata Motors is against it. The demand for hybrid cars has increased in the country in the last few years. For this reason, automobile companies like Maruti Suzuki and Honda have launched their models in this segment.
