Twitter may be banned in Europe, EU warns Elon Musk
EU Industry Chief Thierry Breton said this during a video call meeting with Musk. alert Gave. People with knowledge of this meeting said that Breton has asked Musk to follow the rules. These include not unilaterally reinstating banned users and agreeing to conduct an independent audit of Twitter next year. Twitter and the EU have not responded to questions sent by Reuters in this regard. Earlier, Breton had requested Musk to follow EU rules against hate speech and misinformation.
On behalf of Musk, the European Commission was assured that Twitter would follow strict European rules. Earlier this week, Musk accused Apple of threatening to block Twitter from the App Store. Musk said that Apple has stopped advertising on Twitter and pressure is being put on content moderation.
Apple has not confirmed this. However, it is normal for the company to do so as it enforces its own rules and in the past apps like Gab and Parler have been removed from the App Store due to rule violations. However, Parler was later reinstated after updating its content and moderation practices. Musk tweeted, “Apple has stopped most advertising on Twitter. Do they hate free speech in America?” He later targeted Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook’s Twitter account in another tweet, asking, “What’s going on there?” Musk had said last week that if Twitter is removed from the App Store by Apple and Google, then he can launch his smartphone.
