Vodafone Idea Started 5G Trial in Mumbai to Compete Jio Airtel

The 5G network is becoming common in the country in today’s time, so far Jio and Airtel have started 5G and now Vodafone Idea is also going to join this list. Vodafone Idea has started a trial run for its 5G network service in Mumbai, which is an important step towards its commercial launch. The company is planning to do a full -fledged 5G rollout around Holi (on March 14).

The trial phase allows selected users to benefit unlimited 5G data without any extra cost. Customers who get SMS from VI care or their device can be eligible for 5G signal. Customers will need 5G support mobile and 5G-ready SIM for trial access. The 5G data is free for selected users in the trial phase, if they go out of its coverage area, they will automatically connect to 4G and use data from their current 4G plan. Users will also get an alert on their data consumption.

The Vodafone Idea has joined Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel in the race to start 5G service across India with this step. The telecom company will start commercial 5G service in Delhi, Bengaluru, Chandigarh and Patna in April 2025. Last year, Vodafone Idea signed a deal of $ 3.6 billion (Rs 30,000 crore) with Nokia, Ericsson and Samsung to expand 4G coverage and start a 5G network. With network equipment supply, the company is fast installing 5G base stations to accelerate its next generation service rollout.

Vodafone Idea said that it rapidly expanded its 4G coverage and capacity during the year. In the last 9 months, the company grew by about 41 million in 4G coverage, which reached 1.07 billion by the end of December in March 2024.
