The Ingenuity helicopter of the American space agency NASA has been flying on Mars for about two and a half years. Recently it has completed its 50th flight on Mars. According to the report, on April 13, this drone-sized helicopter covered a distance of 1,057.09 feet (322.2 meters) in 145.7 seconds. During this, Ingenuity also achieved a new record of flying to a height of about 60 feet. Usually Ingenuity flies at a height of about 40 feet.

Our team monitoring this is learning a lot from the achievements of the helicopter. Earlier, the US space agency had shared footage of the 47th flight of Ingenuity. This video was captured by the Mastcam-Z imager mounted on NASA’s Perseverance rover on March 9 this year. At the time the imager captured the video, there was a distance of 394 feet (120 m) between the rover and the helicopter.

According to NASA, every time the Ingenuity helicopter takes flight, it covers a new area. Before this, the space agency had not achieved such success in any mission. Ingenuity is a small, solar-powered rotorcraft. It landed on Mars with the Perseverance rover on 18 February 2021.

Ingenuity landed on Mars in February 2021. On April 19 of the same year, the helicopter took its first flight in the ‘world of aliens’. In the next few days, Ingenuity will complete two years of its first flight. Whatever data the Perseverance team is getting from the Ingenuity helicopter, its assessment can be helpful for upcoming Mars missions. It is very difficult for a helicopter to fly on Mars because the gravity there is one-third less than on Earth. In such a situation, every flight of Ingenuity Helicopter matters.

Seeing the success of Ingenuity, NASA has increased the operation of this helicopter. Now it is working together with Perseverance Rover. The Perseverance rover is trying to look for evidence of microbial life on Mars.
