What is Parcel Scam Fraudsters swindling lakhs of rupees from people CBIC warns
A few days ago, fraudsters grabbed Rs 27.9 lakh from a Pune engineer. The engineer was told that a parcel had come to Mumbai from Taiwan in his name, which contained drugs. The fraudsters convinced the engineer that the call made to him was from the Cyber Crime Cell of Mumbai Police. The engineer was threatened with arrest, to avoid which the victim transferred the money to the accused 10 times and lost around Rs 27.9 lakh.
This is not an isolated case. Recently an engineer from Noida was also cheated in a similar manner. According to media reports, an engineer resident of Greater Noida received a call. The person in front said that he was speaking to the courier company. The victim was told that his Aadhaar card was used in a parcel being sent abroad, which contained drugs. The courier employee said that the Narcotics Control Bureau had stopped his parcel. After this the victim received a call. Someone spoke posing as an NCB officer. Threatened. Then about Rs 9 lakh was transferred.

In view of these incidents, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has warned people. It is said not to trust such calls. Do not fall into anyone’s trap and immediately inform the department. CBIC has said in a social media post that it never makes such calls.
