What is the difference between Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus and Moto G (Gen 3)?

Everyone is aware of the popularity of Motorola’s Moto G series. The company claimed last year that it had sold 56 lakh units in India. The biggest contribution to these figures was from the Moto G series.

Recently, Motorola launched Moto G4 along with Moto G4 Plus, the fourth handset of Moto G series. Both the handsets are available in India. The new Moto G4 handset is an upgraded variant of the Moto G (Gen 3) launched last year. Today we will compare Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus and Moto G (Gen 3). Our attempt is to know what is the main difference between these three handsets. Let us tell you that the old Moto G (Gen 3) handset is still available in the market.

The Motorola Moto G (Gen 3) launched last year used a 1.4 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, along with Adreno 306 GPU for graphics. The new Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus have 1.5 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor and Adreno 405 GPU for graphics. The Moto G (Gen 3) comes with 1GB and 2GB RAM options. In Moto G4 Plus you will also get the option of 2 GB and 3 GB RAM. However, there is only one variant of Moto G4 with 2 GB RAM.

The new Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, while the Moto G (Gen 3) came with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop at launch. This Lenovo-owned company released the Android Marshmallow update for Moto G (Gen 3) in March.

Talking about storage, Moto G (Gen 3) has 8 GB and 16 GB options. It has support for microSD card up to 32 GB. With Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus you will be able to use microSD cards up to 128 GB. The Moto G4 only comes with 16 GB of storage whereas in the Moto G4 Plus you will be able to choose between 16 GB and 32 GB of storage.

Talking about the screen, Moto G (Gen 3) has a 5-inch HD display and Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus have 5.5-inch upgraded full-HD displays. The rear cameras of Moto G (Gen 3) and Moto G4 are 13 megapixels. Dual LED flash is also provided with it. On the other hand, the sensor of the primary camera of Moto G4 Plus is 16 megapixels. It is equipped with new technologies like laser auto-focus and PDAF. The front cameras of all three smartphones are 5-5 megapixels.

The important feature of Moto G (Gen 3) is that it has IPX7 certification, which means it is water resistant. This time Motorola has given water repellent feature in Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus.

Moto G (Gen 3) has a 2470 mAh battery. At the same time, the new Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus handsets are equipped with 3000 mAh battery. The new Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus handsets support fast charging. With these you also get a turbo power charger. It has been claimed that this charger will provide 6 hours of power in just 15 minutes.

The new change in the Moto G family has been made in the form of a fingerprint scanner. This hardware feature is now part of the Moto G4 Plus. Sadly, this feature is limited to the Moto G4 Plus only.

Now let’s talk about the price. Motorola Moto G4 was launched in India for Rs 12,499. The 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage variant of Moto G4 Plus is available for Rs 13,499 and the 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant is available for Rs 14,999.

The Moto G (Gen 3) was recently made available on Amazon India for Rs 9,999. This price is for the variant with 8 GB inbuilt storage. The 16 GB model is available for Rs 10,999.
