WhatsApp banned 1 lakh 66 thousand accounts, know the reason

WhatsApp has released its 11th User Safety Monthly Report, which reveals that the company has taken action against some accounts in India for violating Indian laws or WhatsApp’s Terms of Service. As per the IT Act 2021, WhatsApp has taken action in response to complaints received by users in India through the app’s grievance system and banned more than 1.66 million (16,60,000) accounts in the month of April 2022. The company released the safety report for April on June 1, 2022.

WhatsApp under Rule 4(1)(d) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 India Monthly Reportshows information for the period April 1 to April 30, 2022. The report shows that a total of 844 complaints were sent by users, out of which 90 were accounting support related, 670 were related to ban appeals, 34 were product support related, 13 were safety related, and the remaining 37 were related to other support. Were. Of these, only 123 requests were processed, of which all were ‘Ban’ category complaints except 1 complaint in ‘Other’ category.

It is important to note that taking action means either banning an account or reactivating a previously banned account due to a user complaint. Users can lodge complaint through mail at grievance_officer_wa@support.whatsapp.com or by post at India Grievance Officer address. WhatsApp also has its own tools and resources to prevent abuse and other harmful activities.

Commenting on the latest report, a WhatsApp spokesperson said, (translated) “We are the industry leader in end-to-end encrypted messaging services in preventing and combating abuse. In addition to our security features and controls, these efforts “We employ a team of engineers, data scientists, analysts, researchers, and experts in law enforcement, online security, and technology development to conduct monitoring.”

On the other hand, WhatsApp had said in its previous monthly report released on May 1 that the platform had banned more than 1.85 million accounts in March.
