WhatsApp Channels: Instant messaging platform WhatsApp has recently launched a feature called ‘Channels’. It has been introduced in India as well. Now WhatsApp has said that its channel feature has crossed the figure of 500 million (50 crore) monthly active users. WhatsApp has given this information through a release. It has said that the WhatsApp channel feature has achieved this success within the first 7 weeks of its launch.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, which owns WhatsApp, also shared this success. He posted on his WhatsApp channel that 50 crore monthly activities on WhatsApp channels in the first 7 weeks! It is great to see the WhatsApp community so engaged.

This is a one-way broadcast tool. That is, whoever creates his own WhatsApp channel can send information related to himself to his followers. Followers cannot communicate with him directly. Text i.e. messages, photos, videos, stickers and polls can be sent through WhatsApp channel. This feature is available in a new tab named Updates.

In other news, WhatsApp has started testing a new feature that will allow users to add email addresses to WhatsApp on their iOS and Android smartphones. Currently, WhatsApp users have to log in with their phone number to use the app. Users receive an OTP and the account is activated. As a new method, users are now being given the facility to verify their account through email. Apart from this, WhatsApp is also working on the ability to share polls on its channels feature. This feature can also be launched soon.
