WhatsApp Chat Lock Feature Soon Extend to Linked Devices

WhatsApp introduced the Chat Lock feature last year. This feature lets users keep their chats in a hidden folder that can only be accessed via a secure passcode, fingerprint or Face ID. Meta introduced this feature to improve security and privacy protection on WhatsApp. Now, the social media giant is reportedly looking to extend the Chat Lock function to linked devices. It is being said that WhatsApp will bring the feature for linked devices in an upcoming update. This update has been spotted in WhatsApp’s Android beta version 2.24.8.4.

WhatsApp features tracker WABetaInfo has Claim reported that WhatsApp is working on a locked chat feature for linked devices and it will be available in an upcoming update. The publication has spotted the upcoming feature in the new WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.8.4 update that is available via the Google Play Beta program.

The locked chat feature is no longer available to testers, but the report includes a preview of the function. According to the screenshot shared, the app will allow users to set a secret code for chat access on the linked device. The secret code has to be set from the primary device by going to Chat Lock Settings> Secret Code option.

WhatsApp introduced a new Chat Lock feature in May 2023 and the feature is currently limited to primary devices. It gives users more control over their private and group chats. The notifications for locked chats will not show the sender’s name or message preview. Users can view these hidden chats in a separate locked chat folder, which can only be accessed via passcode, fingerprint, and Face ID.

The developers of Meta are constantly rolling out new and upcoming features to WhatsApp through the beta channel. It is reportedly working on enabling international payments through its in-app Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service. Apart from this, WhatsApp for Android is reportedly getting a new feature to set the upload quality of photos and videos directly through the settings.
