WhatsApp is reportedly working on a feature that will soon let users block messages from unknown people. Currently, there is an option to block an unknown user only when the message arrives, but it seems that after enabling the upcoming feature, messages from unknown senders will be blocked even before they arrive. According to a website that tracks the features of WhatsApp, the instant messaging platform says that this will improve the performance of the device and will also allow users to keep their accounts more secure than before. Let us tell you that recently WhatsApp had started a special facility for the people of Delhi, in which people will be able to book their metro train tickets through WhatsApp. The platform has also joined hands with Delhi Police, under which challans will now be sent to people on WhatsApp.

Feature tracker WABetaInfo notes a new feature on WhatsApp beta for Android saw Under which messages from unknown senders can be blocked. This feature has to be enabled from inside the settings. According to the tracker, the feature has been spotted on WhatsApp beta version 2.24.17.24. As per the shared screenshot, the feature will be introduced with the name of ‘Block unknown account messages’. There is a toggle button, which appears to be off by default and users will be able to enable it through the settings.

The description of the feature reads, (translated) “To protect your account and improve device performance, WhatsApp will block messages from unknown accounts if they exceed a certain volume.”

The fixed volume requirement seems to mean that instead of blocking all messages from an unknown account, it will only block senders if they send more than a certain number of messages. This could be due to spammers, who send a large number of promotional messages every day. No information has been given in the report on whether it will also work on those senders whose message requests have been accepted or not.
