WhatsApp Reportedly Testing AR Capabilities for iOS Call Effects Filters in Beta

WhatsApp update feature
Feature Tracker from WABetaInfo AccordingAR support was first seen on WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.16.7 in July. After the reported rollout of WhatsApp beta for iOS version 24.15.10.70 update through the TestFlight program, it has now arrived on its iOS version as well.
According to the shared screenshot, WhatsApp’s new AR capabilities include dynamic facial filters. Users can now reportedly make changes to their appearance, such as the overall color tone of the video feed. It is also said to include a background editing tool that allows users to blur their background or replace it with preset backgrounds provided by the instant messaging platform.
There is also information about the inclusion of two different modes touch-up and low-light in WhatsApp for iOS beta update. While the former is said to add a facial filter that removes blemishes and smoothes skin, similar to the Face Beauty filters on smartphones, the latter is claimed to increase visibility in low-light environments. The feature tracker shows that this new function is still in the works and only beta testers who have registered themselves through Apple’s TestFlight program can have access to it. It is likely to be introduced to more users in the next few weeks.
Other new features
In addition to the in-development AR capabilities, WhatsApp also recently expanded its sticker lineup with the introduction of GIPHY-powered stickers. Users can now search for stickers without even leaving the app. Additionally, Custom Sticker Maker, introduced on iOS in January, is now available on Android. If users still can’t find a sticker from the library, they can create their own using the Meta AI artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, which is available on apps on Meta platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram.
