WhatsApp Taking Action over suspicious Accounts in India, Banned Over 47 Lakh Accounts in March

Messaging service WhatsApp has banned more than 47 lakh accounts in India last month. This is more than the number of accounts banned in February. Meta-owned WhatsApp has complied with three orders received from the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) in March.

WhatsApp had banned more than 45 lakh accounts in February. This follows three orders received from the recently formed GAC in March. However, WhatsApp has not given any further information about these orders. Its monthly user safety report contains information about complaints received from users and the action taken on them. Along with this, details of the action taken to deal with harassment on the WhatsApp platform are also given. This Report It has been told, “47,15,906 WhatsApp accounts were banned in March. Out of these, 16,59,385 accounts were banned before any report was received from the users.”

Under IT rules, large digital platforms have to publish compliance reports every month. It contains information about the complaints received by these platforms and the action taken on them. Social media firms had earlier been accused of promoting hate speech, misinformation and fake news. Such apprehensions were raised that these platforms are unilaterally removing content and also banning many users. The Central Government had started the system of GAC. In this, users can register their complaints against the decisions of social media firms on a portal. The problem of unwanted or spam calls on WhatsApp may be resolved soon.

A feature can be introduced in this app which is used worldwide, through which such calls can be silenced. This messaging service is based on phone numbers and allows a person to call another registered user even if he or she is not saved as a contact in his or her address book. WABetaInfo, which tracks new features on WhatsApp, recently reported that the new beta version of WhatsApp includes code for a feature that will allow users to silence calls from unknown numbers.
