WhatsApp users beware, there is a conspiracy to steal accounts

yaitoolbox@gmail.com9 months ago04 mins

Another new scam case has come to light on WhatsApp, in which an account pretending to be the official communication source of WhatsApp technology team is asking users to share their verification code. This fake account uses the WhatsApp logo as its profile picture to make the account appear real to users. Whereas let us tell you that WhatsApp teams do not use the messaging app to communicate with users in any way. Instead the team uses social media channels, including Twitter or the company’s official blog, to post public announcements.

WABetaInfo, a blog that tracks WhatsApp features, posted a tweet to highlight this latest scam, after which a Twitter user Dario Navarro inquired about this scam message that users have received. According to the screenshot shared by Navarro, the scammer sends a message in Spanish asking users to enter a six-digit verification code used for account verification on their phone, which users receive via SMS.

This is #FAKEWhatsApp doesn’t message you on WhatsApp, and if they do (for global announcements, but it’s soooo rare), a green verified indicator is visible.

Let us tell you that to activate the WhatsApp account on the new device, verification code is used, which the users receive through SMS on their phones. The purpose of this security code is to protect the user’s account on the messaging app from bad actors.

As we told you that these scammers put the WhatsApp logo as a profile picture in their account, so that other users look like the official account and they fall into the trap of the scammer. However, as reported by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp does not contact its users through the app and even if the company does contact users under any circumstances, the official account name will be accompanied by a green verified mark. Which is an indication of it being an official account. It is also important to note that the Facebook-owned company does not ask users for any of their data, including verification codes.

Therefore, it is clear that the account and message seen in the screenshot is nothing but a scam. You should not pay attention to any such messages.
