WhatsApp Will Add Favorite Contacts Feature to Make Quick Calls
By allowing users to set favorite contacts at the top of the calls tab, WhatsApp is making it clear that important contacts should be front and center of the calling interface. The one-tap calling capability is clearly meant to make the full WhatsApp calling experience better and more convenient. It can be safely assumed that users will be able to choose between a voice or video call when they tap on a favorite contact.
It is not yet clear how users will be able to set a favorite contact but we can see in the background of the screenshot that this can be done from the Calls tab. It is safe to assume that users will be able to long-press on a contact to set it as a favorite contact. Once a contact is added to favorites, it will appear at the top of the Calls tab. Users can simply tap on the favorite contact at the top to start a call with them.
This feature is not live for all users and hence we will have to wait for the official statement from WhatsApp on this. Meanwhile, WhatsApp has recently introduced pinned events in the community for beta users on Android. This feature can automatically identify events shared in community groups and make them visible on top in the WhatsApp community for the convenience of the users.
