There is maximum activity in the smartphone market in the price range of Rs 15,000. But there are two smartphones which have attracted everyone’s attention. Yes, we are talking about Moto G5S Plus and Xiaomi Mi A1. If you are not able to decide which of the two smartphones to buy, then we are here to help you.

Both the smartphones are metal unibody. These have two rear cameras. There is a camera bulge on the back of both the phones, but the bulge of the Moto G5S Plus is clearly visible. The design of both the phones is similar. Apart from the curved edges, the antenna bent has got a place at the top and bottom.

Fingerprint sensors are in different places in both the phones. The scanner is on the back in Xiaomi Mi A1 and just below the display in Moto G5S Plus. The Motorola handset is thicker. Its thickness is 9.5 mm whereas the thickness of Xiaomi Mi A1 with slightly larger battery is 7.3 mm.

However, there is a significant difference between the two in terms of performance. We found that the Moto G5S Plus gets slightly hotter while the Xiaomi Mi A1 has better benchmark scores. Both the phones support fast charging. But in Xiaomi Mi A1 you will get USB Type C port while Moto G5S Plus has old style MicroUSB port. You also get an IR emitter in Mi A1 with which you can control home electronic items. Xiaomi Mi A1 leads this segment on the basis of strong performance, better thermal management and IR blaster.

Talking about software, both run on Android Nougat and there is not much customization. The Mi A1 is a little better, as it is an Android One device. That means software updates are guaranteed. On the other hand, no such claim has been made regarding Moto G5S Plus.

In our tests, the Moto G5S Plus recorded much better battery life. Its battery lasted for 11 hours 15 minutes in video playback. Whereas, the battery of Xiaomi Mi A1 lasts for 10 hours 18 minutes. The Moto G5s Plus appears to have better power management.

The way the dual camera setup of both the phones works is slightly different. Moto G5S Plus has a 13-megapixel RGB sensor and another 13-megapixel monochrome sensor. At the same time, Xiaomi Mi A1 has two 12 megapixel sensors. One is a standard lens and the other is a telephoto lens. The Mi A1’s camera is easy to use and we were able to take better pictures with it in daylight. But there were some complaints about exposure in high contrast situations. The portrait mode given in the phone takes better photos than the depth mode of Moto G5S Plus. The Moto G5S Plus takes the lead in low-light photography. However, after the software update, the performance of Xiaomi Mi A1 has also become better than before. This phone is more versatile due to the telephoto lens, as you can take pictures of distant subjects with its help. Overall, in the camera segment, Xiaomi Mi A1 seems more reliable than Moto G5S Plus.

Although there are many similarities between both the phones. But we would say that Xiaomi Mi A1 is slightly better than Moto G5S Plus. It doesn’t get too hot and software updates are guaranteed. Camera performance is also good in most situations. However, in low light the Moto G5S Plus takes the lead.

If you are successful in purchasing the handset then Xiaomi Mi A1 is a completely value for money handset. If you are not able to buy it then Moto G5S Plus is also not a losing deal.
