Which phone is better between OnePlus 3 and Xiaomi Mi 5?

While buying a phone, price was always important for any person. With time it became more important than before. Today, there are many options available to the users at affordable prices. However, more competition is seen in the segment below Rs 15,000. But today, flagship handsets with excellent specifications can be purchased by spending less money than before.

When you think of flagship phones, the first thing that comes to your mind is costing Rs 50,000. Smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and LG G5 have further strengthened such concept. Look and Design
Talking about design, both the phones look great. Whether to buy OnePlus 3 or Mi 5 will depend on the choice of build material. The OnePlus 3 is an all-aluminum unibody phone while the Mi 5 sports a metal frame and glass rear panel. The Mi 5 is a little lighter. But OnePlus 3 is more solid and durable.

There are some flaws in the build of the Mi 5, such as gaps in the edges on the rear panel. Looking at them it seems that the rear panel can be removed which is not possible. We felt more confident with the OnePlus 3 in our hands.

Winner- OnePlus 3

display
Both phones have full-HD resolution displays, but there are some differences. OnePlus’s 5.5-inch screen is slightly larger than the Mi 5’s 5.15-inch display. Because of this the pixel density and sharpness is slightly higher on the Mi 5. But this difference is not visible to the naked eye. Both screens are equal in terms of sharpness.

The biggest difference is in the screen technology of both the devices. Xiaomi Mi 5 has an IPS LCD screen, while OnePlus 3 is equipped with AMOLED technology. This means that the Mi 5 handset is brighter than the OnePlus 3. Both displays have their own shortcomings as well as advantages. In such a situation, this match ends in a draw.

software
Both the smartphones run on Android Marshmallow framework, but there is a difference in their primary look. Oxygen OS has been used in OnePlus 3 which is a dual-layer interface. This interface is equipped with an app drawer and homescreen. And the effect of stock Android and CyanogenMod is clearly visible on it. On the other hand, Xiaomi Mi 5 runs on MIUI 7 which is a one-layer interface. The style and layout of this interface is slightly different.

In both systems, you have many customization options with the help of which it is possible to setup the phone as per your liking. Security has been taken care of in the customization of Mi 5, while OnePlus 3 has taken care of ease of use and light system. In its own terms, the MI5’s software, based on MIUI, is excellent. But we liked OnePlus 3 based on Oxygen OS.

fingerprint sensor
Xiaomi Mi 5 and OnePlus 3 have fingerprint sensors on the front panel. The sensors are integrated into the home button. The Mi 5 has a physical home button that can be pressed downwards. OnePlus 3 has touch sensitive capacitive buttons. The Mi 5 does not register fingerprints in standby mode. It needs to be activated first. OnePlus 3 unlocks the phone by registering the print even in standby mode. In both the products, it is possible to use the sensor not only to unlock the phone but also for additional security functions.

However, the sensor of OnePlus 3 is slightly faster. It is more accurate. This is one of the best smartphones with a fingerprint sensor we have used. OnePlus 3 is far ahead in this department.

Winner – OnePlus 3

camera
Both phones have 16 megapixel primary sensors. These can record videos with 4K resolution. The front cameras are a little different. OnePlus has an 8-megapixel sensor with 1.4 micron pixels and Mi 5 has a 4-megapixel sensor with 2 micron pixels. Both phones take great photos in good light. Deficiency occurs in low light exposure.

Apart from this, there are some shortcomings in the camera app and software of both the phones. Both the phones are equipped with optical image stabilization and come with shooting features like HDR, panorama and slow motion video. The quality of selfies taken from both the phones was good. In such a situation, we cannot tell with confidence which phone is better in terms of camera.

Winner – Tie

performance
OnePlus 3 and Xiaomi Mi 5 have Qualcomm’s latest flagship Snapdragon 820 chipset. However, the processor of OnePlus 3 has a higher clock speed. LPDDR4 version of RAM has been used in both the phones. Interestingly, the OnePlus 3 has 6GB of RAM which is double that of the Xiaomi Mi 5.

OnePlus 3 is ahead in terms of performance. The credit for this goes to the coordination of chipset, RAM and software. It is not that MI5 is weak by any means. But OnePlus looks more powerful.

Winner- OnePlus 3

Battery life and charging
Talking about the results of video loop test, the battery of Xiaomi Mi 5 lasted for 13 hours 5 minutes. The battery of OnePlus 3 lasted for 16 hours 45. In regular use the phone’s battery will easily last for a day.

Battery life depends on how you are using the phone. More difficult tasks and being constantly connected to 4G connectivity will have more impact on OnePlus 3. Excessive use of the screen will have a greater impact on the battery of the Mi 5. In this way it is an equal competition.

Both the phones have quick charging technology. The Xiaomi Mi 5 has Qualcomm quick charging feature and the OnePlus 3 has Dash Charge. This technology from Qualcomm is tried and tested. In a way this technology is almost equivalent.

our decision
After the comparison it is clear that OnePlus 3 is the winner. It is better in terms of design, software and performance along with fingerprint sensor. Xiaomi Mi 5 was able to compete only in camera, screen quality and battery life. It did not surpass the OnePlus 3 in any department. Apart from this, both do not support microSD card. The inbuilt storage of OnePlus 3 is 64 GB while that of Mi 5 is 32 GB. In this respect also, OnePlus 3 is better among the two phones.

This is a tough competition. It cannot be denied that phone is a matter of personal choice. Xiaomi Mi 5 is better than OnePlus 3 in many aspects. It is small and light. The screen is brighter. May provide better battery life in some circumstances. Apart from this, it is Rs 3,000 cheaper than the OnePlus 3 handset. If these things are more important for you then you will like Xiaomi Mi 5 more.

Both the phones are available on online platforms. There is no need for registration to buy these. Rest assured of one thing, you will not lose money by purchasing any of these phones.
