A major reason for the huge success of Windows 10, which was launched in July last year, is that every user can download it for free for the first one year. Enterprise customers have to pay for Windows 10.

The company also announced that the Windows 10 Anniversary Upgrade, to be released this coming summer, will also be free for users.

The company said that before the launch, the company’s target was to have 100 crore devices equipped with Windows 10 within a few years.

However, the company has not yet provided any information about the type of devices it will run on Windows 10. Microsoft still dominates the personal computer market but its hold in the smartphone market is very less.

According to technology research firm IDC, the share of Windows Phone in the global market this year will be only 1.6 percent. Whereas Google’s Android will capture 83 percent of the market and Apple’s iOS will capture 15 percent of the market.

Microsoft’s biggest problem is its apps, due to which Windows Mobile devices lag behind Android and iOS. Windows Mobile devices fail to attract customers.
