Xiaomi OLED Vision (55-inch) Ultra-HD Android TV Review: An Affordable OLED TV

When it comes to TVs, usually TVs with LED-LCD technology are common in the market because they are also affordable. When Xiaomi entered the TV segment, the company’s focus was on LCD TVs. Even now Xiaomi’s LED TVs are being sold in large numbers in the market. But it has also tried its hand in the premium segment with models like Mi QLED TV 4K which is available in a huge size of 75 inches for Rs 1,39,999. Taking this approach forward, the company has now introduced its first OLED TV in India.

Xiaomi OLED Vision TV The price of this TV in India is Rs 89,999. It comes in a single size variant of 55 inches and is the most expensive TV of the company in this size in India. It is quite competitive and is going to be the first choice for those who want to enjoy OLED screen technology at a low price instead of spending money on expensive premium TVs. Xiaomi has launched this TV at such a price, where you get to see high-end quantum dot LED TVs from brands like Sony, Samsung and OnePlus.

The TV has specifications like Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos. With features like 30W sound output and Ultra-HD OLED screen, is this Xiaomi TV the best TV under Rs 1 lakh? Let’s find out in this review.

Xiaomi OLED Vision (55-inch) Ultra-HD Android TV design and specifications

Most 55 inch OLED TVs cost more than Rs 1 lakh, but to maintain competition in price, Xiaomi has launched it at Rs 89,999. Currently, it can be called the most affordable OLED TV available in India. The availability of OLED display at this price makes this TV special.

Apart from the price, the company has not skimped on the design and specifications of the TV. The thickness of the TV is only 4.6mm and it is quite slim on the edges. However, it is quite thick in the middle area towards its back panel. The bezels on the screen are quite thin all around. The module given at the bottom has the Xiaomi logo, indicator light, power switch and switch for the far-field microphone.

The TV can be wall mounted and stand mounted. Standard VESA compatible wall mounts can be used with it. Xiaomi provides free professional installation for this. The stand comes with the sales box of this TV but the wall mount kit is not available. However, on requesting for the wall mount kit at the time of installation, it is available.

The ports and sockets of the TV are easily accessible after wall mounting. The RJ45 Ethernet port, Optical Audio-out (Toslink) port, RCA socket and Antenna socket face downwards while three HDMI 2.1 ports, two USB Type-A ports and 3.5mm audio jack are on the left side of the screen. HDMI ARC is supported on one of the ports. The power cable is permanently attached to the TV on the right side of the screen, which is too short for my liking.

Xiaomi OLED Vision TV has a 55-inch Ultra HD 3840×2160 pixel OLED display, each pixel of which has the ability to shine on its own and does not require backlighting. The TV supports high dynamic range content up to Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10 + format. It has a standard refresh rate of 60Hz and supports 98.5 percent DCI-P3 color gamut. The contrast ratio is 15,00,000: 1 and Reality Flow MEMC engine has been provided for motion interpolation.

For sound, this TV has a 30-watt speaker system, which has 8 drivers and supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X format. For connectivity, Wi-Fi 6 and dual band, Ethernet and Bluetooth 5 support is provided to connect wireless audio and TV remote to the TV. The TV has 3 GB RAM, 32 GB storage and has a quad core ARM Cortex-A73 processor.

Xiaomi OLED Vision (55-inch) Ultra-HD Android TV remote and features

Some things never change. The remote of Xiaomi TV is also one of them. The company’s basic, simple plastic Bluetooth remote comes with the box, which has seen some minor changes. Considering the price of the TV, the absence of battery with the remote is disappointing.

The remote works well and has some of the latest features added to it like Quick Mute (press the volume button twice quickly), Quick Wake (turns the TV on from standby in 3-4 seconds), Quick Settings (long press the Patch Wall button). You can also switch between Xiaomi’s PatchWall user interface and stock Android TV.

Hot keys have been provided for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar. A button to activate Google Assistant and a microphone for voice commands are also provided on the TV. Apart from this, far-field microphones are also provided in the TV which are set to always listen for wake commands.

The assistant can be activated by saying ‘OK Google’ or ‘Hey Google’ from across the room. It easily understands even complex commands. In this mode, the microphones always keep listening. If this is a matter of privacy for you, then an option to turn it off is also given.

The TV also has built-in Chromecast and low-latency feature for gaming. Apart from this, there is no other special feature for gaming. The refresh rate is 60Hz which means it can be used with current generation gaming consoles.

Xiaomi OLED Vision (55-inch) Ultra-HD Android TV software and interface

The Xiaomi OLED Vision TV runs on Android TV 11. It has PatchWall 4 on top and a stock Android TV user interface. Apps and games can be installed via the Google Play Store, which has a list of over 5,000 apps including popular content streaming apps, social media apps, and other services.

PatchWall doesn’t add any major features, but it’s still a content-focused UI and offers a good experience. There’s IMDb integration and a Mi Home app for access to your home’s IoT devices.

There are a few additions compared to the last Xiaomi TV I reviewed. The interface now looks similar to the Google TV UI that was released in late 2021. While the lack of Netflix support in the recommendation engine might disappoint you, you can still use Google Assistant and regular search for it.

The overall software experience with the TV is quite good and I did not find any bugs etc. during use. Personally, just like I liked its app-focused approach, some users may also like its PatchWall content-friendly interface.

Xiaomi OLED Vision (55-inch) Ultra-HD Android TV performance

With a budget of around Rs 1 lakh, customers will go for a good quantum dot LED TV for 55 inch TV like Sony’s Triluminos range, Samsung’s QLED TV and OnePlus TV Q1 Pro etc. However, Xiaomi TV offers better screen technology to customers at a price of less than Rs 1 lakh.

This doesn’t mean that the Xiaomi TV is on par with premium OLED TVs like the LG CX range, but it does support OLED technology. I watched content on the TV in a variety of resolutions and dynamic ranges, from Ultra-HD Dolby Vision to simple standard definition, and the TV performed as expected from a premium device.

xiaomi

I watched Love, Death & Robots Season 3 on Netflix in Ultra-HD Dolby Vision. The TV performed quite well. The blacks on the TV were excellent. The contrast level was also perfect. Night time scenes also looked quite good on the TV.

The effect of Dolby Vision was clearly visible, not just in brightness but in colours too. I noticed something similar while watching The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals, where beautiful landscapes and holiday homes looked quite impressive.

Better Call Saul looked sharp and detailed in Ultra HD resolution. Black levels and dark scenes looked quite good. Brightness levels did not feel very strong in daylight scenes either, but sharpness and color accuracy were quite good. While watching Better Call Saul, I noticed some motion interpolation problems in fast-paced scenes. At times, this looked distracting and was a major drawback of the TV.

xiaomi

FullHD and low-resolution content looked quite good on the TV. The sharpness was less in the lower resolutions, but the natural softness of the TV compensated for it. Colors and black levels were good in Matrix Resurrections, Kim’s Convenience and Formula 1 races. Here too, there was some problem with motion, which was more visible in Formula 1 races.

The sound quality of Xiaomi OLED Vision TV is decent. The sound quality is quite clear. It is consistent across all content. But its main use is in sitcoms and sports content where dialogues and commentary need to be heard clearly. There is no growling sound in the sound and it delivers clean, uniform sound even when the volume is high.

Support for Dolby Atmos makes the sound more impressive. Although the sound was good, Sony HT-A7000 or any equivalent sound bar can be used to get a better sound experience as per the resolution of the TV.

Our verdict

The cost of buying an OLED TV has made this category ultra premium. But Xiaomi’s competitive approach has put the TV more within reach. It gives tough competition to quantum dot LED TVs from brands like Sony and Samsung. If you have a budget of Rs 1 lakh and want to buy a 55-inch TV, then this is one of my top choices.

Blacks look great on the Xiaomi OLED Vision TV. Its colours, sharpness, good software, reliable performance and value for money do justice to it. Although there were some shortcomings in the motion areas, the overall experience was very good. It can be said that this TV is best for those viewers who watch a lot of high resolution HDR content or are looking for a TV that is 4K and has very good black levels, that too without spending a lot of money.
