After using the phone throughout the day, we found that the apps run smoothly but they take some time to open.
We did notice that the phone would sometimes slow down when switching between apps, especially when there were five to six apps running in the background. Sometimes even basic apps took a few seconds to load. With the 2GB RAM variant, multitasking will be smooth if you are not running games in the background. Simple games like Temple Run and Candy Crush ran without any issues.
PUBG Mobile Boy was on default low graphics settings and we noticed that the phone slowed down and even dropped frames. But still the gameplay was better than other smartphones in this price segment.
Camera and battery life of Xiaomi Redmi 7A
Redmi 7A has a 12-megapixel rear camera that takes crisp shots. When there was sufficient light, sharpness and colors were captured well in the photo. Pictures taken in daylight turned out well. When viewing these on a larger screen you will notice shallow depth of field and poor dynamic range but at this price point this is not surprising. Photos taken indoors and in low light did not look very good as they lacked sharpness and grains along with noise were visible.
The Redmi 7A captures vibrant macro shots with good sharpness. If you like true-to-life colors, then macro shots taken with the Redmi 7A will disappoint you. The phone struggles a bit in locking the focus. There are many types of filters available in the camera app. Beauty mode has been provided in Redmi 7A with five levels of beautification. We found that it makes the skin smooth and light. But by doing this the colors of the background element also get washed away.
Portrait mode is also provided in Redmi 7A which blurs the background well. If we compare it with Realme C2, then the additional depth sensor at the back of the phone helps in isolating and keeping the object in focus. Redmi 7A has a 5 megapixel selfie camera. In daylight selfies, we found that it lightens the skin tone without any beautification filter, and the background details also lacked sharpness.
The phone looks good on the phone screen but when zoomed-in, grains become visible. Selfies taken in low light lacked detail, along with poor color reproduction and noise. Redmi 7A can shoot videos in 1080 resolution at 30 frames per second. Overall, grains were visible in the video.
Even with normal usage like full day internet connectivity, social media usage, messaging, calling and gaming for 30 minutes, the Redmi 7A lasted a whole day. Not only this, till night there was about 30 percent battery left in the phone. In our HD video loop test, the Redmi 7A lasted 14 hours and 47 minutes. The 10-watt charger that comes with the phone takes more than two hours to fully charge the phone.
